Your Mission

Virgin Galactic is seeking an accomplished embedded systems software engineer who is a strong individual contributor and also enjoys mentoring and coaching teammates. The ideal candidate will have hands on experience with safety-critical software development in multiple programs in aerospace or similar field. You will bring significant experise in architecting, desiging and developing embedded systems for safety critical applications. -Your MissionDevelop and maintain avionics software applications through the complete software lifecycleMentor junior colleagues and help troubleshoot problems across multiple software projects across multiple platformsDesign software solutions for vehicle level issues utilizing multiple software subsystemsActively participate in code reviews, requirements development, internal audits, and other software-related development activitiesMonitor program performance after implementation to prevent reoccurrence of program problems and ensure efficiency of operationsContribute in continuous improvement of the software development and integration process within the departmentParticipate in risk management meetings

What you bring

Basic QualificationsBachelor of Science degree in Software Engineering or a related engineering discipline from an accredited university, or equivalent combination of work experience and educationStrong foundation of fundamentals of electrical engineeringStrong organizational and written communication skills4 or more years of safety-critical software development programs in aerospace or similar fieldExperience with embedded system hardware and softwareExperience with FPGA hardware and softwareExperience with real-time operating systemsStrong organizational and written communication skillsApplicants must be U.S. persons as defined by the ITAR (22 CFR -120.15)Experience with safety-critical software projects following DO-178Experience with C and C++ embedded softwareExperience with VxWorksExperience with Xilinx RTOSExperience with VHDL and/or VerilogPreferred Skills and ExperienceExperience with MATLAB and SimulinkExperience with LabView and National Instruments instrumentationExperience with the Atlassian software project management suite including JIRA, Bitbucket (Git), Confluence, and CrucibleITAR RequirementsTo conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, applicant must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by ITAR (22 CFR -120.15) or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.As part of our commitment to health and safety, COVID-19 vaccines are required for current U.S. teammates, as well as all newly hired employees. -As of -October 1, 2021, all new hires must be able to provide proof that they are fully vaccinated against the COVID-19 virus, ( "fully vaccinated" means at least two weeks have expired since receiving the vaccination's last dose as recommended by the manufacturer) .
