Micro Center has created a General Manager/Retail Manager in Training program (GMIT) to create a pipeline for both temporary/short-term assignments as well as regular vacancies within the Senior Manager (Sales, Operations, Service) and Store Manager/General Manager ranks. We are interested in experienced high volume retail managers (30 Million +) who would be willing to fill in as a senior manager at various locations in order to gain experience for future GM openings. At this time, only candidates with high volume (30 Million +) and min 5-10 yrs senior retail management experience will be considered. The GMIT can be based in any of the cities where the position has been posted but willingness to relocate for final GM placement is an important factor to the success of our GMIT program. We have established industry leading Covid-19 health and safety standards for our locations nationwide to ensure the continued health both of our associates and customers. RESPONSIBILITIES AND TRAINING SPECIFICS FIRST SIX MONTHS: * The program will consist of up to six months of training in the four major focus areas of our stores - Sales, Operations, Service and Human Resources to ensure that trainees learn all senior management functions within a Micro Center store * At least two people will sign off on Trainee's progress and proficiency in each area* Whenever possible, training will take place in the higher performing stores, close to Trainee's current market/region* Trainee will be partnered with a Store Manager who will be his/her champion and in addition will be partnered with Store Managers in their fill-in store(s) as well as Retail VPs to ensure a broad scope of knowledge and training NEXT SIX MONTHS: * Once initial training is completed, the graduate will be eligible for any open General Manager position. Should there not be a suitable match, the graduate will work with their District Manager to assist both within and outside the district where needed to gather Micro Center retail experience. * The partnering Store Managers will be accountable for Trainee's performance with assistance and feedback from Home Office Retail VPs and District Managers. Performance criteria and behavioral competencies will be set up front.* Managers in Training will attend all Home Office Retail Leadership Meetings (4 positions, biannually, for a total of 8 per year)* After one year, Trainee must be willing to accept and relocate to a Senior Manager or Store Manager position where we have a vacancy. Pay increases will be given for all permanent placements/moves. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS Our ideal candidate should have 5+ years of experience with a major big box retailer in a high-volume (30 Million +), 30,000+ square-foot store, with at least 100 employees and accountability for profit and loss. * Background must include heavy emphasis on and experience in sales management, merchandising, human resources, operations and freight flow, customer service function and all other aspects of retailing. The ability to generate sales, hire, retain and coach qualified employees, execute corporate initiatives and analyze the competition are necessary functions in this position.* Preference will be given to candidates who have a college degree, previous retail electronics experience, or those that have previously participated in a GMIT or DMIT program within a retail organization ADDITIONAL INFORMATION * Locations/Regions are defined as followed: (please indicate on your application first and second choice for region)* East Coast - Cambridge, MA; Paterson, NJ; Brooklyn, NY, Queens, NY, Yonkers, NY, Long Island, NY; St. Davids, PA; Rockville, MD, Towson, MD; Fairfax, VA* Midwest - Mayfield Hts., OH, Columbus, OH, Sharonville, OH; Madison Hts., MI; Chicago, IL, Westmont, IL; Brentwood, MO, St. Louis Park, MN; Overland Park, KS;* South - Marietta, GA, Duluth, GA; Houston, TX, Dallas, TX;* West - Denver, CO; Tustin, CA * Ideally we will hire in markets where we have multiple stores, but location will not be the only consideration when choosing trainees and/or training stores* Trainee candidates will need to commit to the time period for all temporary assignments prior to applying to this program. Assignments may be several months in length as the schedule will be based upon the needs of the store/region. Trainees on temporary assignment will be put on the store schedule like all other senior managers in the store.* Covered expenses while in the training program include:* Temp housing while on temporary assignment outside your home region* Flights and/or auto travel for temporary assignments* One trip for spouse of Trainee for every 30 days away from home region * Covered expenses for relocation to a new, permanent position include:* One month pay at new rate to cover incidental moving expenses* 30-60 days of temporary housing to get settled* Two house hunting trips for family* One household pack and move with our approved mover* $15K for Senior Manager position to use for selling of house/purchase of new house, $20K for Store Manager position OUR GROWTH OPPORTUNITIES: At Micro Center, we empower our employees to set their sights high and blaze their own trails.
