The Interior Mechanical Design Engineer develops design solutions
that support the overall long-term goals of the vehicle and
creating standard processes and procedures while collaborating with
the airframe design and certification team throughout the
conceptual, design testing and certification phases. The role is
heavily involved in the building of prototype and flight test
aircraft as well as incubating technology that will transition to
the operations/production team in the long run. The engineer
contemplates design for manufacturing from the beginning and ensure
a smooth transition into production with the operations team. The
role collaborates closely with all technical development teams,
including systems, interiors, flight technology, and airframe. What
you can do:
- Use creativity, knowledge and experience in mechanical design,
composites, structures, mechanisms, and systems engineering to
design, analyze, test, certify and transition into high-rate
production aircraft cabin ECS(Environment Control Systems)
components such as; Passenger Service Units (PSU), ducts, plenums
and air filtration systems
- Design using various processes: CNC Machining, injection
molding, vacuum forming of plastics, sheet metal stampings,
castings, forgings, VARTM to create a light weight, cost efficient
and easy to assembly, install and maintain cabin interior
equipment
- Work directly with Product and System engineering to gather and
understand the project design requirements
- Prepare and author various manuals / templates such as design
standard and best practices, procedures and processes,
specifications, and requirements
- Conduct concepting / brainstorming, design reviews and prepare
presentations to gather and integrate design feedback
- Solve manufacturing, assembly and process issues and develop
solutions to improve deficiencies
- Build 3D models of design details per design best practices and
create and maintain Bills Of Materials (BOMs) using Catia
- Ensure compliance with safety / regulatory standards
- Other duties as assigned What you can contribute:
- Bachelors degree in a Mechanical or Aerospace engineering
- A minimum of five (5) years of mechanical design experience
creating and releasing parts and assemblies in Catia with an
emphasis on ECS(Environment Control Systems), PSU assemblies,
aircraft cabin air distribution and filtration systems (an
equivalent combination of education and experience may be
considered)
- Experience with development programs, prototyping and
engineering project management
- LEAN/Six Sigma experience and qualifications
- Significant knowledge of Catia and ASME Y14.5 Standards
- Significant knowledge of Catia and ability to create complex
surfacing
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication
- Highly collaborative with the ability to work both
independently and with a team
