Sir Richard Branson, Founder, Virgin GalacticVirgin Galactic is seeking a talented and motivated Product Safety Engineer (Senior Systems Engineering) to join our team. Specifically, this role is for supporting the development of new aircraft/spacecraft design projects. The primary responsibility will be supporting structures, developing systems architecture, and avionics development and integration for the projects. The ideal candidate will have proven prior results in technology development of integrated hardware and software in the aerospace industry. This role is for an engineer with great attention to detail and possesses excellent communication and people skills.Responsibilities:

  • Work with project engineering to develop Product Safety artifacts for new and existing designs. An applicant must have experience with one or more safety analyses from either or both of the major safety areas below:
  • System Safety Analysis (SSA)
  • Fault Tree Analysis (FTA)
  • Functional Hazard Assessment (FHA)
  • Failure Mode Effects Analysis (FMEA)
  • Risk identification, prioritization and management
  • Flight Safety Analysis (FSA)
  • Trajectory Analysis
  • Debris Analysis
  • Probability of Failure Analysis
  • Population Exposure Analysis
  • Flight Hazard Area Analysis
  • Provide support and risk advice to production, maintenance, technical, project or program personnelEducational Requirements:
    • B.S. or M.S. degree in an Engineering discipline, Mathematics or Physics from an accredited universityKnowledge/Experience:
      • Knowledge of Systems Engineering development lifecycles
      • Knowledge of software development practices and design assurance methods such as DO-178 or ARP4754 preferred
      • Knowledge of electronic hardware design assurance methods such as DO-254 preferred
      • Experience with Built-In-Test and its application to RM&S preferred
      • Knowledge of FAA commercial space regulations preferred, CFR 400.
      • Detailed knowledge of the inputs and outputs of the various RM&S analysis techniques
      • Experience with the system safety methods of ARP4761 or MIL-STD-882, with emphasis on hazard mitigation processes
      • Experience with Human Factors and its application to RM&S preferred
      • Must have experience with a fault tree modeling software
      • Ability to read electrical and mechanical engineering drawings, to include schematics, wiring diagrams and assembly drawings
      • Strong statistical analysis skills preferredProfessional Requirements:
        • 3 or more years of relevant experience in aerospace or similar field
        • Strong troubleshooting, organizational, and written communication skills
        • Team player with excellent communication skills both verbal and written
        • Must be self-motivated and capable of working with some supervision, adaptable to changing environments, and able to handle multiple tasks and/or projects simultaneously
