JOB SUMMARY1. Perform optical design, calculation, and assessments associated with the development of new STAAR intraocular lenses. 2. Ensure that work product is performed per Design Control requirements where appropriate.3. Develop process specifications, manufacturing methods, and procedures for existing and new lens products 4. Develop and execute metrology procedures and methodology as dictated by the needs of the R&D, Regulatory and manufacturing organizations.5. Train manufacturing personnel in current and new metrology equipment and procedures to improve process efficiencies at STAAR.6. Prepare validation reports, equipment and process qualifications, and other testing as needed and direct lab personnel to conduct tests.7. Develop strategies, plans and tactics for new optical products. 8. Other duties as assigned.EDUCATION & TRAINING--- B.S. in Optical Engineering or scientific or engineering discipline that incorporates significant optical engineering or equivalent.--- Ph.D. preferred. EXPERIENCE--- Minimum five years experience in optical product development rpreferred for B.S. in Optical Engineering, minimum eight years experience in optical product development preferred for B.S in scientific or engineering discipline that incorporates significant optical engineering, minimum three years experience in optical product development preferred for Ph.D. in relevant subject.--- Demonstrated experience developing new products, from concept through commercialization, required.--- Lens design experience required.--- Experience coordinating outsourced projects desirable.--- Experience working in a GMP/ISO quality system environment--- Strong knowledge of Design Control procedures with experience in a medical devices setting preferred.SKILLS--- Proficiency in using ZEMAX required.--- Strong written and verbal communication skills, ability to interact with lab personnel as well as departmental leaders to effectively present ideas and information.--- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail; ability to multitask effectively.--- Demonstrated ability to effectively manage priorities to achieve company objectives.
