Your Mission The Chief Engineer (CE) is responsible for ensuring the technical validity and substantiation of the program, coordinating with the broader organization and external suppliers to complete the engineering design, development, testing and qualification of the next generation Mothership aircraft. In this role, the CE manages the technical scope of the Mothership program and the cross-functional engineering team required to complete individual projects within the program in accordance with Program requirements. The role of a Chief Engineer is varied and dynamic. They should be capable of managing their time effectively and keep an overall awareness of both the tactical and strategic activities and planning of their program.

  • Responsible for the engineering design, development, build, test, qualification, and operations of the fleet of Mothership aircraft.
  • Responsible to the Program Manager for meeting program cost and schedule requirements, as well as defining and managing overall engineering program scope.
  • Build, develop, mentor and leads the cross-functional engineering team to complete the program, and coordinates with other stakeholders in the Program Team, both internally and externally.
  • Apply technical expertise, leadership skills and program management tenacity with an unwavering commitment to quality and safety to further the advancement of human spaceflight
  • Oversee development of Engineering plans to meet program requirements, to include Systems Engineering Management Plans, Test Management Plans, Validation and Verification Plans and other engineering development plans.
  • Oversee the development and validation of the vehicle/product technical requirements in support of overall program requirements.
  • Supports the development of project schedules for the Engineering activities and manages the completion of those activities. -
  • Communicate the Engineering objectives, goals, schedule, and tasks to the Engineering team.
  • Assign and prioritize responsibilities for engineering tasks.
  • Review status of engineering deliverables and initiate appropriate corrective action to meet schedule.
  • Perform overall quality control of the work (budget, schedule, plans, personnel's performance, etc.)
  • Support team development and growth with a commitment to elevating people through hiring, mentorship and career development of Project Engineers and engineers supporting their program.
  • Regularly report to executive leadership and the wider organization the projects status and performance What you bring
    • Bachelor's degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering or similar Engineering discipline from an accredited institution.
    • 15+ years industry experience in progressive technical leadership roles within emphases across a complete aircraft program.
    • Energetic, passionate and organized leader ready to lead a program through the full lifecycle
    • Demonstrated ability to lead and empower a team of subject matter experts in varying technical disciplines.
    • Able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and thrive in a complex product development environment with multiple priorities as well as a disciplined production setting
    • Experience with technical leadership across a complex supply chain environment
    • Understanding of aircraft development (design, build, test) and engineering processes, including Model Based Definition, Produce Lifecycle Management, Configuration Management, Configuration Control, ERP and MRP systems.
    • Experience with the design of aircraft to a set of requirements or standards such as CFR 14, Part 400, Part 23 and 25, military or NASA
    • Excellent verbal and written communication, excellent computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, Project and PowerPoint.
    • Execute strategic goals and objectives in support of the overall company goals and objectives.
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a high attention to detail.
    • Team player with excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
