Position description
The University of California, Irvine School of Law invites
applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor of Lawyering
Skills/Visiting Professor of Lawyering Skills for the 2024-2025
school year. (We strongly prefer full-year visitors, but we will
consider applications for one semester.) Lawyering Skills is a
two-semester, six-unit course that satisfies the Law School's 1L
experiential course requirement for graduation, described below.
Over the course of the year, the Visiting Professor of Lawyering
Skills would teach the following three courses:
Lawyering Skills I- In the fall semester, the focus is teaching
skills that all lawyers use, such as fact investigation,
interviewing, legal analysis and communication, and extensive legal
research.
Lawyering Skills II- In the spring semester of this two-semester
course, the focus is on more advanced legal analysis and
communication skills with particular attention on written and oral
advocacy, and negotiation. Over the course of the two semesters,
all students will have gained experience in a legal clinic setting,
where they will conduct intake interviews of actual clients of
local public interest organizations. Legal research will continue
to be emphasized.
Upper-Level Skills Courses- UCI Law offers a wide variety of
upper-level courses designed to prepare students to practice law at
the highest levels of the legal profession. Examples of courses
visitors have taught in the past include Appellate Advocacy,
Litigation Skills & Strategy, and Race & the Law. The decision for
an upper division course will be made in consultation with Vice
Dean Trilby Robinson-Dorn.
UC Irvine School of Law is a visionary law school focused on
training talented and passionate lawyers and driven by professional
excellence, intellectual rigor, and a commitment to enrich our

upper-level course, may be sought during the evaluation process.
