Description



Chapman University invites applications for the position of tenured Associate or Full Professor and Chair of the Department of Health Science in the Crean College of Health and Behavioral Sciences, located in Orange, CA, to commence Fall 2024.





The University seeks an experienced and innovative leader with the vision to advance the Department's research and educational agenda in the areas of health equity, health disparities, public health and climate change, public health and aging, and/or emerging areas in public health while sustaining a culture of rigorous, personalized undergraduate education in health science and hiring new research-active faculty to reinforce the vision. The program curriculum is designed to prepare students for graduate education and professions in the health sciences (medical, physician assistant, nursing, dentistry), allied health professions (physical therapy, occupational therapy), and public health. The department features state-of-the-art virtual human anatomy and human performance laboratories. The Chair would have significant opportunities to advance the public health curriculum and research program of the department.

Responsibilities







  • Interface with Crean College leadership, Office of Research, Office of the Provost, and other college, university, and community partners to promote the department, its programs, and faculty.

  • Assume department chair responsibilities in accordance with college and university guidelines.

  • Recruit, mentor, and evaluate full-time multidisciplinary faculty.

  • Teach in area of expertise with teaching load negotiated.

  • Strengthen research productivity of the Department by mentoring and supporting faculty in obtaining extramural funding and by hiring research-active faculty.

  • Maintain a robust research agenda.

  • Provide strategic leadership to Department faculty and staff for management of curriculum and assessment.

  • Oversee the Department budget and advocate for Department needs through the enhancement process.

























    Qualifications





    Minimum Requirements









    • Terminal academic doctorate (PhD, DrPH, or equivalent).

    • Robust, established research agenda, publication record, and extramural funding in at least one of the following areas: health disparities, health equity, health policy, disease prevention, public health and aging, public health and climate change, emerging issues in public health.

    • Evidence of teaching excellence at the undergraduate or graduate level.

    • Evidence of academic or professional leadership.

    • Evidence of mentoring faculty.

    • Evidence of commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in teaching, research, and /or service.











      Strong candidates will demonstrate excellence in developing interdisciplinary research and curriculum collaborations, as well as articulate a strong, collaborative vision for the department as it advances research expertise in public health and as it hires more faculty in this area.
